I Love Rowan project

This Solibad project was started in March 2013 as a sponsorship with an existing project, called « I love Rowan ». The Rowan mission(which stands for Rural Orphans & Widows AIDS Network) is to « love and empower orphans and widows infected or affected by HIV AIDS in Africa ». Through the help of a mission and a local pastor, Kelsey Hargadine created this project to help the Widows and orphans affected by Aids, by giving them support, education, and helping them to produce art crafts to support themselves.

Rowan is a christian based association but seeks to help the community at large.

Solibad has decided to help Rowan for its daily needs and to sponsor the education of 15 children for a whole year. The foundation started the program by sending 4500 US $ for the educational program of these children and help the educational program of Rowan.

  • Secondary school scholarships ensure that ROWAN orphans can attend school.
  • Offering tutoring for Primary students needing assistance for exams.
  • School supplies. This program ensures that the children have the supplies they need for school.
  • The drama program; ROWAN children’s choir  – Music is also used to inform people about the effects of AIDS and to help children tell their own stories.

In 2012, Rowan has been honored with a prestigious 2012 Top-Rated Award by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews about nonprofit organizations.

Solibad and Rowan will work on future projects together, possibly the creation of artwork to produce unique badminton trophies.

August 2015

Some sad news from our project in Uganda.

One of the leaders of the Rowan Community, who had joined Rowan in 2005, Tap, passed away today. Amongst many other activities in the village and the community, Tap was cooking for all the children and her love showed through the way she cooked and cared for the children of Mawanga. This is a time of pain and sorrow for the whole village. Our thoughts go to everyone there who have known her, her friends and family. May she rest in peace.
