The FFBaD and the non-profit organization SOLIBAD-Badminton Without Borders- have signed today a strong partnership to take joint actions such as « Smash your diabetes », their first co-project to help the youth carrying a type I diabet to play Badminton in sports clubs.
After an initial agreement signed in late 2014, Solibad and FFBaD formalized today their partnership for a renewable period of four years, with a set of actions which have been defined in line with the French Federation’s development policy and the charitable mission of Solibad.
Their first joint project entitled « Smash Your Diabetes », aims to introduce young people carrying a type I diabetes with the practice of badminton. The campaign will officially start next September with few pilots badminton clubs, and will be deployed in the following months in all clubs within the FFBaD. A special attention will be put on these young diabetic players considering their specific health conditions, for whom sport is an essential vector of physical and mental well-being. » The badminton community is particularly active, so it makes sense for the FFBad to get involved as well into charitable projects. This is why since last spring, the FFBaD moved closer to the AFM Telethon and today I am very pleased to sign this partnership with Solibad as they are specifically involving the French and the international badminton communities to be active around the world. We will be starting today with « Smash your diabètes » which will create a very strong partnership between us. Badminton is a really healthy sport. Non-traumatic, very playful, accessible for women, men and kids and it is particularly suitable for a project like « Smash your diabetes. » Explained Richard Remaud, president of the FFBaD.
« This partnership is taking a concrete form and will increase our field of action within the French territory. 115 badminton clubs have already signed off our charter, nearly half of the worldwide badminton community which is following us, and this alliance with the French Federation should help us to energize the dynamic French badminton community! On the other hand, this partnership is of a great importance as it formalizes the launch of a concrete initiative, which means a lot to us: with the support of association Aid to Young Diabetics (http: // www.ajd-diabete.fr/), helping young people carrying a disease, which is generally unknown by most people. The 2,500 clubs registered to the FFBad will be an ideal platform to relay this major initiative, « said Raphael Sachetat, Solibad’s founder and president.
Recycling Equipment for underprivileged populations
Another joint initiative has been undertaken through this partnership: collecting and recycling badminton equipment continuously throughout the year in clubs, and punctually at major events (Yonex International French Open, various French championships, etc.) These equipment (rackets, shuttlecocks, nets) will be sent primarily to children for whom badminton could help to envisage a better social situation – but also to another supported program, named « Shuttle Time « , a joint project between the FFBaD and the International Badminton Federation (BWF), which aims to promote badminton by equipping schools in underprivileged areas, particularly in French-speaking Africa.
